Taiga – O.P. Cheshuina – Moscow sculptor, member of the Union of Artists. She worked in the field of easel and decorative sculpture, was engaged in plastics of small forms.

The model of the “Zarema” statuette was made in 1954 in the “Ballet” series intended for replication at the Dulevo Porcelain Factory.

Zarema is the heroine of Alexander Pushkin’s poem “The Fountain of Bakhchisarai” and the ballet of the same name by BV Asafiev, a concubine from the harem of the Crimean Khan Girey. Tormented by the throes of jealousy, Zarema kills her rival – the Slavic woman Maria – and dies herself.

On a low oval stand, a ballerina is depicted in wide trousers and a bustier, with a diadem on her head. She stands on the toe of her right foot. The left leg is laid back. The left arm is bent at the elbow, the right arm with a dagger is raised above the head.
