V.F. Torokin – Kasli foundry, self-taught sculptor, master of reduction.
The reduction of the sculptural group “Dzhigitovka Lezgin” by the famous Russian sculptor E.A. Lansere (1848 – 1886) was made in the 1890s.
Dzhigitovka – exercises on a galloping horse among some peoples of the Caucasus and Central Asia. Lezgins are a people belonging to the indigenous population of the southeast of Dagestan and north of Azerbaijan.
The composition depicts the moment of the battle. Two mountaineers with guns in their hands race on horses, fleeing the chase. One has risen to his full height in the stirrups, the other is shooting back. On the front of the convex stand there is a bas-relief with a composition of the rider’s weapons and equipment. Above, there is an in-depth inscription: “Worker V. Torokin”.
The Kasli plant has been casting sculptures since the 1890s.
Condition: corresponds to age and grade.
Without restorations. Original. Excellent antique safety. Native factory painting. Noble patina. The “traces of time” are barely visible.
